Fire Ban in Effect – June 29th, 2021

In consultation with Council, and on the advice of the municipal fire services provider (Onoway Regional Fire Services), the Summer Village of Nakamun Park has now declared a Total Fire Ban, effective immediately.

This fire ban will remain in place until further notice. The fire ban prohibits open burning, fireworks, backyard fire pits, cooking stoves and barbecues that use fuels such as wood and briquettes. Gas and propane barbecues are still permitted during the fire ban, provided they are properly located and supervised.

We also remind residents and guest to exercise extreme caution when using ATVs, yard equipment, etc. as hot surfaces or sudden sparks may cause ignition of surrounding grass/brush.

Thank you,

Weekly orders (for both hot and frozen meals) are available. A pamphlet is attached for more detail on order cut-off dates and program options.

Love Your Lake Website
This website has tips on how to maintain a shoreline buffer, how to prevent erosion, know which docks are the most environmentally friendly or something else that’s impacting your shoreline and lake.   More details here…

Lake Safety – Be Wake Smart!

With the high water levels this year and many residents and guests out enjoying the lake, please remember to exercise extreme caution when boating or operating watercraft on Nakamun Lake. Please be respectful of other lake-goers, avoid environmentally sensitive areas, and be safe.

Please avoid causing unnecessary wakes near the shoreline, boat launch or in the vicinity of other watercraft’s. Large wakes are a safety concern for the community and may also result in shoreline erosion, negatively impact environmentally sensitive areas/processes, and stir up lake sediment.

Let’s maintain a healthy lake we can all enjoy!

Dock Permits – Provincial Requirements

There are new requirements in place for placing a dock in the lake! The User Guide for Dock Permits outlines the requirements and process for an individual to obtain an authorization to place a temporary, seasonal dock for personal recreational use in Alberta’s water bodies.

Documents you will require to obtain a dock permit:

Dock TFA Application

Crown Land Client ID Application

Note: If you as the applicant are NOT the owner of the waterfront land parcel, the department will then require the applicant to obtain the written consent of the waterfront landowner or holder before the application will be considered for approval. You will need to attach this consent to your application. If the land is one of the Summer Village’s reserve areas, please email the administration office to request a letter of consent and provide your contact information and where you are requesting to place the dock.

Completed applications are to be emailed to:
