Spring is (finally!) here and it is time for an update.
We have hired Brian Brady as the Summer Village Maintenance Manager, Brian has extensive experience in parks, forestry, landscaping and recreation development. Brian starts full time May 1 (tomorrow) so please welcome him to our summer village when you see him. Also, remember that if you have concerns with work being done in the summer village you should bring your concerns up with either the Chief Administrative Officer or council, not our summer village manager. If you like the work being done, pass the kudos on to Brian and council.
In addition to hiring Brian, we have several other announcements:
- Village roads will be graded tomorrow (May 1)
- This is an election year, and with that there are some key dates to be aware of (I will submit a separate post with information about elections/council):
- Nominations: June 24 (Saturday), from 10am – noon at the village maintenance shop
- Advance polls: July 14 (Friday) at the St Albert Inn 4pm – 8pm
- Election day: July 22 (Saturday), from 10am – 7pm at the village maintenance shop
- Canada Day celebrations on July 1. More details to follow, but it will be an afternoon event with activities in the park.
- Summer Village Annual Information meeting will be held on July 8 (Saturday), at 10am. Following the meeting, we will have a hot dog lunch, followed by activities in the park that we invite everyone to join in. More details to follow as it gets closer.
- Slow-pitch was a huge success in the summer village last summer, thanks to everyone who participated! We will be playing slow-pitch again this summer every Wednesday starting at 6:30pm. In addition, we will have games on every other Saturday, starting at 2pm. Teams are organized based on who shows up, so come out any time you can. I will post an update on when the games are starting, based on the condition of the field. We have bats, balls, and extra ball gloves available, and the games are all about having fun and socializing with your neighbours.
- Ball diamond improvements. We will be doing some work on the ball diamond before we start ball, putting shale in around the home plate, pitcher’s mound, and bases. Thanks to Garry Richmond for organizing these improvements!
- Recreation Committee. We are forming a summer village recreation committee to organize recreational activities, if you are interested in participating in the committee please contact me (Mark Miller) at mark.miller@svnakamun.com.
Other notes:
- I do not have anything new to report regarding the Masse property development to the south of the summer village, the next step is for Masse to re-submit his environmental and traffic studies to Lac Ste Anne County council.
- Please keep your dogs on a leash when you are walking them, and remember that you are responsible for cleaning up after them.
- Please do not litter along the roadways or through bottles/cans in the trees.
- If you see bucked up wood in the summer village ditches or at the edge of summer village property, you are free to take it. As dead trees are cleared from the summer village property the wood is bucked up and stacked by the side of the roads for residents to take.
- Property tax notices will be sent out by mid-May, and payment is due June 30.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to seeing you in our community!
