Spring is here and we have a lot happening around the summer village!
We have hired Lonnie McConnell as the Summer Village Maintenance Manager, Lonnie is a resident of our summer village and will be working with us from May 2 – Sept 30. Please remember that if you have concerns with work being done in the summer village, you should bring these up to council, not our summer village manager. If you like the work being done, pass the kudos on to Lonnie and council. We will also be hiring for part-time help, if you or someone you know would be interested in part time work in the summer village helping remove trees, etc please let me know (mark.miller@svnakamun.com).
We have a number of activities going on this summer:
- We have our 50th Anniversary celebration being held on July 23, and I want to thank the Anniversary Planning committee for the hard work that they have done so far in planning the event. This is going to be a lot of fun for everyone, please mark it down in your calendar and plan to attend and participate in the various activities being organized. More information will be posted on the summer village web site as the event gets closer, and in a pamphlet coming out with your tax notice.
- Weather forecasters are predicting a dry spring/summer based on the lack of moisture through the winter, so we will be working to mitigate fires in the summer village, including:
- Removing dead trees from summer village property, standing and fallen
- Purchasing a chipper so that we can safely dispose of branches
- Trimming the green belts back where they have become overgrown
- With purchasing a chipper, we will provide residents the option to have the summer village dispose of branches from your personal property and will designate an area for residents to drop off branches (more detail to follow). This is much safer than burning branches and easier than hauling them away.
- Based on recommendations from a wildfire mitigation study that was done for our summer village, we will be installing new property signs on every property in the summer village. These signs will be installed in a consistent location close to the road and will significantly help emergency vehicles find addresses in the summer village. We are doing this in conjunction with a number of other municipalities through Lac Ste Anne county.
Other notes:
- I do not have anything new to report regarding the Masse RV park development to the south of the summer village, the next step is for Masse to submit a development application for his planned park. We will be notified by the county when the application is submitted, at that time we will determine our next steps.
- Our new fire service provider (Onoway Regional Fire Services) has been quite active in our community, engaging in multiple practice events in the summer village and meeting with council to discuss recommendations for fire mitigation and emergency planning. They will also be conducting a door-to-door campaign in our summer village this spring to meet our residents, discuss concerns and recommendations, and provide fire safety documentation.
- Please keep your dogs on a leash when you are walking them.
- Property tax notices will be sent out by mid-May, and payment is due June 30.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to seeing all of you in our community!
