As we approach the May long weekend and some family time out at the lake, we want to remind residents and guest of the Summer Village of Nakamun Park that a FULL FIRE BAN remains in effect. This ban will remain in effect until further notice, and is unlikely to be lifted over the long weekend given the current conditions and projected weather forecast (no significant rain and persistent high winds).
This ban includes a complete prohibition of all outdoor open flames, fireworks, fire pits – including screened fire pits, burn barrels/incinerators, and charcoal briquette barbecues. In addition, all fire permits are suspended or cancelled, and no new fire permits will be issued at this time.
Updated Restrictions: At this time, on the advice of our fire service department, our regional emergency management agency, and the provincial emergency management advisors, we are expanding this Fire Ban to include a ban on ATV use, as well as propane/natural gas fire pits within the Summer Village of Nakamun Park. While these measures are not typical, we are currently in a situation where the regional risk for fires remains extremely high, and our regional fire and emergency management resources are also stretched thin with existing responses. We must all be extra cautious at this time. These additional restrictions on ATV and propane/natural gas fire pits are a further proactive step to help protect our community, friends and neighbours.
Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our municipality protected. We will keep you informed as the situation changes, and update you as soon as the fire ban is lifted and things are back to normal.
