PUBLIC WORKS FOREMAN
The Summer Village of Nakamun Park is a small, quiet Summer Village on the south side of Nakamun Lake, located approximately 60km northwest of Spruce Grove. The Summer Village has approximately 150 residences with an average full-time summer population of about 100 people.
The Summer Village of Nakamun Park requires a self-directed and mechanically-inclined Public Works Foreman for the period of May 7th, 2018 through September 30th, 2018, working Monday through Friday, 8 hour days (weather permitting). Wages will be between $23.00 and $30.00 per hour, with a mid-month advance and month-end cheques as preferred method of compensation. The final wage rate offered will be based on candidate experience and ability. Applicants must understand that this position is temporary and seasonal in nature, though renewals for subsequent summer seasons may be possible for the right candidate.
The position is physically demanding and may require working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Safety gear (including CSA steel toed footwear, hearing and/or eye protection, and lifejackets) must be worn as required. Minimum Class 5 motor license is also a requirement of this position.
It is expected that the Summer Village Foreman will work in a courteous and respectful manner with all Summer Village stakeholders including council, administration and residents.
Typical duties of this position include:
• Regular day-to- day maintenance of Village equipment, including aquatic weed harvesters, trucks, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, tractors.
• Cut and trim grass, fell trees, harvest and remove lake weeds (as per Government of Alberta guidelines), and pick-up parts, fuel and supplies from local distributers when required.
• Maintain the Village shop as a clean and safe working environment.
• Recommend equipment purchases/rehabilitation, in writing, as required.
• Recommend projects that may be required to maintain or improve the safety and recreational environment of the Village.
• May be required to supervise and oversee additional public works staff or contractors.
• Experience and certification as a chainsaw operator would be an asset; training may be offered to the right candidate if needed.
