Thank you to the residents who attended the March 10th 2018 open house regarding the proposed Nakamun Oasis Recreational Development. Council was encouraged to see the public engaged in this process and we are hopeful the developer, Roy Jensen, will give full consideration to the comments he received before proceeding with any future development plans.
Council received an additional presentation from Mr. Jensen during our March 21st, 2018 council meeting. During this presentation Mr. Jensen attempted to respond to the concerns he had received during the open house; his comments are posted on the nakamunoasis.ca website if you wish to view them for yourself. Council remains extremely concerned with the proposed development and intend to scrutinize any such proposal or formal application moving forward. While the development would be within Lac Ste. Anne County and not under the direct jurisdiction of our council to review this application, Council has resolved to open a dialogue between County Council and ourselves to ensure our concerns are noted now.
If a formal application to redistrict or develop the subject lands is filed by Mr. Jensen, Nakamun Council is prepared to use all applicable channels to challenge such a proposal and we would certainly encourage like-minded residents to file their own grievance on the matter with Lac Ste. Anne County at that time. Our lake health, community safety and general infrastructure consideration for the region have not been properly considered in the current development proposal and only by engaging do we stand a chance of mitigating, and hopefully preventing, these types of developments in the future.
As always, Council will remain in contact with you on this matter and update you with any new information as it arises.
Sincerely,
Mayor Marge Hanssen and Council
