On behalf of myself and the Council of Nakamun Park, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

2014 was a very productive and enjoyable year for the village. We finally saw the completion of the Boat Launch which was certainly a cause for celebration after the roadblocks that had to be overcome in order to get it built. A special thank you goes out to the Council for their support in helping me keep my sanity throughout the entire ordeal.

We have completed some road graveling and drainage projects on our village roads. Todd, as usual, did an exemplary job as our village manager. Thank you, Todd, for your hard work and thank you to all the volunteers that helped Todd put in and remove our speed bumps and assistance in any other small jobs that needed to be completed.

We unfortunately had Hilda Marsh give up her duties as our CAO due to poor health reasons, but were very fortunate to have her daughter-in-law, Shelly Marsh take over Hilda’s position. The transition was very smooth and a special thank you to Shelley making it so much easier for us. Hilda did an outstanding job for us for many years and for that we thank her and we wish her the best of health and enjoyment for many years to come.

We did face a little blip in the earlier part of the year with the Masse proposal for recreation rezoning in the land behind our summer village. With all the letters and petitions our residents took time to send in to the County and the attendance at the County hearing, we were able to show enough of a unified front and objection to the quality our lake and surrounding land would suffer that the County rejected the proposal. Koodos to all of you who took the time to write and show up to the meeting.

Thank you to Mark Miller for all his updates on our website and to Bill Burrell for for his supervision over the road repair and drainage project. We also are pleased to announce that we have some policing and animal control in the village, information is on the website. Warren, one of our residents is operating the snow grader and windrow removal this winter. Hopefully we won’t have to put up with too much snow (just enough for recreation purposes).

Welcome to all our newcomers to the village and we look forward to meeting you next summer. Have a great Holiday and enjoy the winter!

    Harry Kassian, Mayor
