A heads-up to everyone that we have passed a new fireworks bylaw which bans setting off fireworks in the summer village. This was done for a couple of reasons, including:

    • Safety
We were receiving complaints that fireworks were being set off in a dangerous manner and it is very difficult for our peace officer to catch people doing this.
    • Provincial regulations
There are new provincial regulations that require us as a municipality to charge a levy to residents for storing and discharging fireworks. We would also need to provide reports to the government and remit payment based on fireworks discharged.

The new bylaw is posted on our web site and can be accessed here.

This bylaw bans residents from setting off fireworks and sky lanterns, however it does allow fireworks to be set off by a qualified pyro-technician with permission.
