Community Peace Officer Services

I am pleased to report that the Summer Village of Nakamun Park has entered into a new agreement with the Town of Mayerthorpe for peace officer services, this replaces the peace officer services which were previously provided by the County of Lac Ste Anne and were recently terminated.

The primary goal of the Peace Officer is to maintain peace in a community through enforcement of the municipal (Nakamun) bylaws and provincial statutes. In general, the municipal enforcement objectives of the peace officer are:

• Education/Public Safety Programs to inform and educate our community about our services and public safety programs
• Liaison and co-operation with other enforcement agencies/departments to provide an effective and efficient co-response
  to routine and emergency situations
• Enforcement of Provincial Acts and Municipal Bylaws to maintain a safe community in a fair and impartial way
• Traffic Enforcement to maintain safe streets and roads throughout the community
• Animal control to ensure responsible and safe pet ownership
• Parking Management which contributes to efficient traffic flow patterns
• Consultative Services which includes: customer support by providing investigational and enforcement services to the general public, other government agencies and Town departments.

The role of the peace officer does not cover criminal code violations, if you need to contact enforcement services for a criminal code violation you must contact RCMP by calling 911.
