I am heading up a volunteer committee for the summer village to clear dead trees from our municipal green spaces, primarily for fire mitigation but also to clean up the green spaces, promote growth of new trees, and provide firewood to local residents.
We will need volunteers to help with cutting down trees and delimbing them, piling up branches so they can be moved, and stacking the wood to prepare it for moving. Fuel, oil, and chain oil will be provided by the summer village, as well as drinking water. In addition, we are trying to organize a chain saw safety course for the volunteers. Volunteers will have first dibs on the firewood, any remaining wood will be made available to all residents.
The next steps for this project are:
– collect names of people that are interested in helping
– have a kick-off planning meeting in August
– start work in September
We will get started on the work this year, but I can see this becoming an annual activity for volunteers – as long as we have people willing to help.
If you are interested in helping, please contact me and let me know if you will be helping with running a chainsaw or other work (i.e. not using a chainsaw):
