Re: Waste Collection and Phasing Out of the Waste Token System
Council has become aware that Lac Ste. Anne County is preparing to phase out the ‘Token System’ begin in January 2025.
For those unaware, the ‘Token System’ allowed non-county residents to purchase tokens for the disposal of household waste, and then use these tokens to access the the County’s network of local transfer stations – rather than having to go to the main regional landfill at Gunn. For residents in Nakamun Park, it meant a more convenient trip to Rich Valley, or Onoway, to dispose of garbage. This system worked well, and we benefited from the dedication and diligence of the Burrells who served as our local token distributors (thank you, Bill and Eileen).
With the old system on the way out, Council has started researching alternative waste collection/disposal services used by our peer municipalities in the region. Council is also seeking terms from Lac Ste. Anne County for Nakamun Park residents to be able to purchase the same transfer station access cards that county property owners receive. No decision on any of these alternatives has been made yet.
Additional information will come out as the discussion continues. In the meantime, property owners and residents should be prepared to start taking their household waste to the Gunn Regional Landfill beginning January 2025. Full information on the Gunn Regional Landfill, including location and operating hours, can be found at

Thank you for your cooperation during this transition period.
