Experienced at ice fishing? Never tried it and can’t understand why someone would sit around a hole in the lake in the middle of winter?

This is your chance to try out ice fishing or assist some new people if you are already experienced. We are inviting all Nakamun residents, friends, family, etc to come out on Sunday, Feb 16 and try out ice fishing. If you have fishing gear, please bring it – if you don’t we will supply what you need (including having holes already drilled). Don’t forget to bring a chair and warm clothes (and maybe some hand/foot warmers). Also – on Family Day you do not require a fishing license (http://albertaregulations.ca/fishingregs/helpful-info.html).

I am not sure how good the fishing is this year as the fish population is much lower than what we saw last year, but if nothing else it will be a fun social event. For anyone 12 and under you must be accompanied by an adult. We are promoting “catch and release”, but if you want to keep the fish and it is of legal size you are responsible for cleaning it, etc.

The event will be from 12:00 – 2:00pm Sunday, Feb 16 and we will supply a hot dog lunch and hot chocolate. If the forecast for Sunday (on Saturday morning) is below -15C, we will cancel the event.

If you are willing to help with setup (mostly drilling holes and setting up fishing gear) or assisting people with fishing, please contact me by email at mark.miller@svnakamun.com.

Reminder – ice fishing event this Sunday from Noon to 2pm. We will supply everything except chairs and good luck. Weather forecast for Sunday is for a high of -2C, so it is looking like a great day to head out onto the lake.

    See you there,

Thanks to everyone that participated in our Family Day Weekend ice fishing event. We had over 30 people come out and try their hand at ice fishing, have lunch, and socialize with their neighbours around a fire.

    Special thanks go out to:
    ————————-
Stewart Schmidt – for making the ice fishing poles, providing an ice auger and supplies
Garry Richmond – for providing an ice auger and helping drill holes
Lonnie McConnell – for helping drill holes and set up for lunch
Richard Chaney – for helping set up and getting a fire going

    Stay tuned for more events!
